Google sends out January update to all supported Pixels except the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro

  Jan 05,22  102 Comments

Google has today announced that it's sending out the January update to its phones. We're talking all Pixels which are still supported, except the newest Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro. So that means you're covered if you have anything between the 3a generation and the Pixel 5a.

If you're wondering what's going on with the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, well, so are we. Last month's update came with some pretty big issues on those phones, so Google pulled it, and promised a better update in January. This, however, is not it. The Pixel 6 and 6 Pro will apparently get a special update later this month, which will incorporate both the fixes from December, and these that went out to the other Pixels today, while also fixing the call dropping issue that was what prompted the company to pull the December update.

Anyway, back to the other phones. As usual when it comes to updates from Google, this one too may take many days (or even weeks) to reach all units out there. The new build number is SQ1A.220105.002 for all phones, and it comes with a bunch of bug fixes that apply to specific subsets of models - see the Source linked below for the full details.

To give you a general idea, you can expect fixes for Wi-Fi drops, a lot of things related to UI crashes and other shenanigans, a fix for incorrect data usage accounting in the Settings, and one that prevented the Pixel Stand setup from starting. You also get general network-related fixes and improvements.
